I have not had a test done to know whether or not some of my kids have been fighting the nasty norovirus that’s been going around. However, their symptoms sure do seem to match.
One son threw up and was fine.
One son was down for a week vomiting and with diarrhea, then threw up everything he ate in the month of March as a last horray of the virus leaving his system. He was totally fine after that – a bit tired.
Now, the first son who was sick (about 3 weeks ago) woke up last night throwing up. After 3 bouts of it (yea, it was fun – nothing like waking up to the sound of hurling!), it was morning and time to get up.
He slept in for a bit, however, when he made his appearance, he just climbed up on the sofa and laid down. I knew he was exhausted.
He lost his dinner two more times before I got the chance to rub peppermint and lemon essential oils diluted in olive oil on him.
Peppermint is so good as a digestive aid, tummy calmer, and indigestion reliever, among many other things. It can work internally or through the skin. For instance, for bloating and gas pains, simply ingest 1 drop in a tall glass of water and/or rub a diluted few drops in a carrier oil such as olive oil, coconut oil, or V-6 carrier oil directly onto the skin.
Here are a few more things it can do…
Lemon is one of the best virus fighters I know of! It, along with peppermint, has saved me from catching stomach viruses, this norovirus (or whatever it is!), and even general colds and flus. When you are a caretaker to this many (I have 4 kids), you have to figure out a way to not continually catch “things” that they bring home.
Essential oils have greatly helped me avoid all those nasty viruses.
Lemon is also in a very cool oil blend – Thieves – which is based on what the thieves used during the time of the plague as they stole from people. When they were caught, they had to give up their secret recipe for making it through without getting sick. One of those ingredients: Lemon!
Not only does it fight off the bad stuff, it makes the yummiest water and lemon-flavored food when a drop or two is added.
Here’s a few more things lemon can do…
Both of these are staples in my house now. I feel it GREATLY if one of them accidentally runs out before my autoship order arrives (or if I forget to add it to my order – Eek!).
I love having them to use for me and my kids – both in sickness & in health.
Now, let me show you how to apply these essential oils for fighting viruses like the norovirus, or any of them for that matter…
When you fight a virus, especially when the child can’t tolerate putting anything in their tummies due to vomiting, these are some steps you can use to benefit from the healing properties of essential oils:
1) Put essential oils on their feet
Your feet are a very sensitive area for absorbing essential oils. They contain many different points that coorespond to different organs in the body. It almost works like accupuncture or accupressure points. You can focus on one point or generally rubbing the oils into the sole of the foot for absorption.
2) Rub essential oils down the spine
Viruses can attach themselves to the spine. When using oils, it’s a great area to target. You can simply rub your fingers up and down the spine, being sure to go as high and low as possible with the oils for the most benefit.
3) Swirl the essential oils on their tummy directly
Because peppermint can be absorbed through the skin to make a difference in indigestion, why not for vomitting? Rub it on, gently, of course, with the lemon and carrier oil.
I first rubbed some on my son’s back and feet. Then, a few minutes later, I decided to tackle his tummy. He was all for it… he even held up his shirt!
I also decided to pray for him since the scriptures say in Mark 16:18 “they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
He soon fell asleep for about 45 minutes. When he woke up, he was asking for almond milk. I decided to give him some since it had been awhile since the last episode, and sometimes, unfortunately, that’s the best way to find out if they still have an issue.
He’s been totally fine since – eating, smiling, even humming the Star Wars theme song!
I’ve asked him over and over again if his tummy was better.
His response every time: “It’s gone!”
