Recipe: Gluten Free Apple Crisp

I had several apples on the counter, just staring me down… almost challenging me to make something delicious with them. I took their challenge and came up with this gluten free dessert that we gobbled up! I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. It’s definitely a winner in my family and will be added to our party hosting dessert menus!

Ingredients:

4 organic apples, thinly sliced
2 tbsp agave nectar or honey
2 pinches of cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract
A pinch of salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients in a bowl until blended well. Place in a lightly greased loaf pan. Top with topping below.

Topping:
1 cup gluten-free oatmeal
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp of natural sugar, such as Turbinado or Rapadura
Mix in medium bowl and place on top of apple. Cook in the oven for approximately 45 minutes, until apples are soft and topping is golden brown.

Serve & enjoy!

  1. That’s a true gift you have, sister! Your family is so lucky…. and just think, they will have all these yummy recipes ready for them when they start families of their own. What a legacy of good health you are leaving them, Jessica!

    1. Thanks! I hope so… they really seem to like helping me cook. I’m trying to capitalize on that by teaching them how to… and not just the fun aspect. I want to make sure my boys can cook, too. And I mean more than boiling water!!

    1. Stevia is the 3rd in line as far as my sweeteners go. I prefer agave, then honey, then stevia. Agave has very little extra flavor… mainly just sweet. Honey can have a more distinct flavor. Stevia can get very bitter very fast unless you get just the perfect balance between sweet and bitterness. It’s MUCH better than artificial sweeteners like Equal, etc. Have you used it before? Have you liked it?
